There are two phases of the cardiac cycle. These phases are diastole and systole. The dicrotic notch is found during systole, specifically ventricular systole.

Systole is the time when left and right ventricles contract and eject blood into the aorta and pulmonary artery.

Diastole is the time when the ventricles are not contracting or are in a relax mode.
