The factors that led to the decline of the Roman Republic include the following:
stagnation of the economy
slave revolts
conflicts within the military
The only way for the power to be preserved was that the power was distributed equally among the people. The disadvantage of an empire compared to a republic is that an empire puts the power only to the emperor.
