How did economic interests affect the united states' inability to stay neutral in WW1?

the america cannot be in neutral in world war 1 because at first the british and the germany are already at war, so the america wants to sell ammunition to both the germany and and britain. but the britain blocks the germany from trading to the other parts of the world. so the america can only sell to the brits.
