Why are today's ouachita mountains shorter than they once were?

A. Wind and water eroded them over millions of years.
B. An earth-quake suddenly broke them into pieces.
C. A collapsed magma chamber hollowed the ground below them.
D. Tectonic plates collided on both sides of the mountain.
Thanks for the help.
