Why was D-Day’s success so vital to an Allied victory?

If the Germans had managed to win D-Day it would have been at least 3 more years before the Allies could attack again in such strength.

It allowed the allied powers to assemble defense camps to aid in the world war 2 landing the allied powers in German territory
