Sales decline....they are still used, but many people just opt for digital everything nowadays. VHS tapes are the latest media storage device to hit market extinction; it's incredibly hard to find them anywhere, and they are definitely not sold en masse. DVDs are still around, just nowhere near as popular as they once were.
