why did japan look beyond china for future expansion? ...what actions were taken by western nations to try to defend nations from Japanese invasion? (WW2)

Japan declared the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. This was from Manchuria to the Dutch East Indies. They expanded because Japan needed more natural resources. Japan also had an allied with Germany and Italy. Japan also expanded and signed a neutrality pact with the Soviet Union.
