During three decades of conflict between the government of Sri Lanka and the group known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The civil war started in July 1983 and ended in May 2009. The Tigres wanted to create an independent state. Many ethnic and racial issues as well as discrimination, forced the Tamils to fight for separation. After 27 years of armed conflict, the troops of the government defeated the rebels, ending the hostilities in the country.

Sri Lanka is an Asian Island located southwest the Bay of Bengal, in the Indian Ocean.
