The main conflict in Beowulf is B. good versus evil.
Beowulf is your typical hero – he comes to Denmark in order to help the king of the Danes, Hrothgar whose country is devastated by the evil monster Grendel. Grendel is a vicious beast, who is a brute and is not a sapient being. He murders people in Hrothgar’s castle constantly, and will not stop until the man who can beat him comes to Hrothgar’s aid. Beowulf is the typical symbol of good, fighting for the future of mankind, whereas Grendel is a representation of evil and everything in the world that should be cleansed.
