During this time the sun is closer to the earth in its yearly revolution around the sun. In winter another place on earch is hotter because it is closer than we are.

Due to the earth's tilt, It will be hotter in some areas that are facing to the sun but in some areas it will be colder beacuse the earth is not facing to the sun.
