Churchill gave a speech in which he declared that Russia had built an "Iron Curtain" separating eastern Europe from western Europe. Churchill meantthat the Soviet Union had separated the eastern European countries from the west so that no one knew what was going on behind the “curtain.”

The Iron Curtain was the name for the boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. Churchill named it.
