Old Major is the first main/major character that George Orwell described Animal Farm. Old Major was described as the pig in Animal Farm and was used the name Old Major because it has a meaning similar to being a pig. (I can't find any other ways to describe Old Major)
I don't know if this is what you mean but, I think the characteristics of Old Major in an animals farm is Old Majors meaning of their name. Because Old Major means "of pigs is a kind, grandfatherly philosopher of change." So the first or second major of Old Major in Animal farm is Pigs because of the meaning of Old Majors name.
