The option which is not a reason given for the Protestant Reformation is D. Martin Luther wanted to be Pope.
He never wanted to become Pope, he just wanted to create a reform of the Protestant Church so as to avoid selling of indulgences, among other things. He thought that the Pope was incompetent, and that due to the extreme importance of tradition in religion, something had to be changed.
