Life was hard for the people of Jamestown, for many of them died of disease, starvation, and indian attacks, until John Smith arrived. When he arrived, he set to order the camp, and cooperated with the Indians around the area, and so with the help of friendly indian tribes, they survived their first winter. John Smith continued to help build up peace with the Indians and to establish order within the colony, however, he had to return to Britian because of some problems.
