X - (X*D) = S

S= Sale Price
X= Original Price
D= Discount

Part B:

S = X - XD

S= Sale Price
X= Original Price
D= Discount

8.96 = X - X(.30)
8.96 = X(1 - .30)
8.96 = X(.7)
Divide Both Sides By .7
12.8 = X
