What is the reason that missouri compromise did not have lasting effects

Cause the northern states wanted to limit slavery, the southern sates wanted to admit more slave states. Resulting in the south getting another slave state at the cost of agreeing to limit future slave states to being southern. I Hope this helped some.

Because it only applied to states that were bought in the Louisiana Purchase.
