How do you think rivalries between religious groups affected anti-imperialism efforts in India?

Rivalries between religious groups affect the development of a national unity. National unity was what the Indians needed to overcome English rule. Sikhs and Hindus, however, entered - and still enter - into constant conflict, which made it difficult for these groups to act in the process that culminated in India's independence.
