One essential component that the German society made was the crucial bond among the Germanic people was the family, especially the extended family of husbands, children, brothers, sisters, cousins and grandparents. The family structure was simple because the males were dominant and made all the important decisions and woman obeyed her father until married and then her husband. The German concept of family affected the way Germanic law treated the problem of crime and punishment.
