How do fossils provide evidence that evolution has taken place?

They show that animals today are not how they were found back then. It shows a progression of evolution. Scientist calculate the age of fossils and categorize  them to determine them when organisms lived relative to each other

the fossils from prehistoric organisms can be compared to present day organisms showing the differences in how much thwy have changed.
