The more plants and animals found in an area the slower the rate of weathering, as they will protect and prevent erosion. This is because the plant roots hold the soil together. On addition to that, the leaves block the rain and prevent it from breaking the soil apart. The rocks also help, If you add them to the soil you slow the absorption of water and reduce the runoff.
