Why are nose piercings cultural in America?

I want to get my nose pierced, but the only way I can get it pierced is if I answer this question for my dad.

It originates from Indian and South Asian cultural as a sign of beauty and self expression and has become popular in America for many of the same reasons. People see it as a way to individualize and can give more self confidence to many young people especially. Hope this was helpful :)
