Why were merchants in the cottage industry trying to avoid dealing with guilds and cities

During High and Late medieval Era Guild were volontary assosiation of cooperations and buissnes but due to rise of mercantilism guild shifted to be monopolist organization setting the minimal prices and destabilize free market due to that fact cottage industry located outside of the cities wanted to avoid dealing with businesses through the guild and their system.
