The maximum distance that Jonathan can run this week is obtained by multiplying 5 and 3.5 miles. That is equal to 17.5 miles. If we let x be the distance he can run any day of this week then, we may express it as
x ≤ 3.5
Then, if we let y be the total distance he can travel in a week then, we may express it as,
y ≤ 17.5
