A indirect proof is similar like proving by contradiction where the conclusion from a hypothesis is assumed to be false. So, we can say an indirect proof assumes the conclusion to be false.

We have to look out for any contradiction against the given theory for being false, just to prove that the theory is true. We can also say that we work in opposite way. First assume the theory to be false, then prove it true.
