Both speeches are given on the occasion of a great loss of life in battle. Both discuss the bravery of the men who died. They also try to explain that the sacrifice made by the soldiers and their families was worth the price they paid. Both Lincoln and Pericles explain that democracy is important, and dying to protect it is honorable.

Both Lincoln and Pericles deliver their speeches to a large audience. Both have the same themes in their speeches, unity. When they deliver the speech, they make sure that the message is passed through millions of people listening, inspiring these people creates more impact than just moving one. They are both inspirational leaders who are praised by most.
