Answer: Edo of Benin

The mask of Idia was created by the Edo people of Benin, a West African empire centered in what is now Nigeria. The mask represents Queen Idia, mother of Esigie, the Oba (ruler) of Benin, who ruled from 1504 to 1550. Queen Idia was a great warrior who played a significant role in the rise and reign of her son.
