Your answer will be, 369,976,000,000.
It's that high because your using exponents. It's correct!

First, you must put the two numbers with the same exponent.
I will change the higher number: 3.7 * 10 ^9 = 370 * 10^7
Now you can subtract: 370 * 10^7 - 2.4 * 10^7 = 367.6 * 10^7
And finally convert to scientific notation again: 3.676 * 10^9
Answer: 3.676 * 10^9
