Why was the cold war called the cold war?

Answer:

Although we never really call them this, wars like the 1st world war, 2nd world war and Korean world war were hot wars. This is because there was hysical fighting.

To contrast this, the cold war was more of a hostile stand off between America and the Soviet Union (mostly controlled by the Russians). There was an arms race, meaning they were competing for the most and best weapons and the Berlin wall was built. However, no physical armed fighting was ever carried out between the Capitalist and Communist sides.
