The South relied on rivers for the transportation during the civil war because the South did not have as many railroads as the North.

The American Civil War was a fight in the United States spanned from 1861 to 1865, between the North and the South. During this armed conflict railroads, the telegraph, steam and iron ships, and mass-produced weapons were massively implemented. But the South did not count on those innovations as the North did.
