The first of the antiparticles to be detected, positrons werediscovered by Carl David Anderson in cloud-chamber studies of the composition of cosmic rays (1932). The discovery of thepositron provided an explanation for a theoretical aspect of electrons predicted by P.A.M. Dirac.
