How could a addation or deletion of a base (A,T,C,G) in a sequence of DNA effect protein production

I'm not sure if this is the right answer, but I think deletion would cause the base pairs to shift, this is from my notes, but it might not be the answer to this question. Sorry if it's wrong :/

a mutation can occur, so when it comes to protein production the wrong protein can be produced, the speed of protein synthesis can be sped up or reduced depending on what base is deleted and protein splicing can occur
