One reason that the demands on healthcare systems have increased in recent year

there is much debate on this but. It because there have been constant rises in disability and obesity there is a scarily increasing amount of over weight and obese people forming in america. And that could come from simply lack of self care or other reasons.

The demand side for healthcare is one reason healthcare systems have increased in recent years.  Specifically, as the "baby boomers" are getting older, they are experiencing more health related issues that are frequently associated with increasing age, including dental problems, arthritis, and pharmacy services (increase in prescription drugs); and as such, the demands on healthcare systems to be available to manage their needs are increasing.
