tsunamis form from tectonics plates of the earths surface slip, releasing a massive amount of energy into the water. this energy travels up to the surface, displacing water and raising it above normal sea level. but gravity pulls it back down, which makes the energy ripple outwards horizontally, then the tsunami is born moving over 500 mph. these can begin from an earthquake, volcanic activity, or lands slides.
