The human body requires oxygen to go through cellular respiration, in turn producing energy.
Technically the energy isn't being made, it's just being transferred from compounds such as Glucose into ATP.

But considering that you probably don't want the super technical answer, then yes, the body practically needs oxygen to make energy,
