Why a square must be a rectangle, but a rectangle does not have to be a square?

A square has four sides and they all have to be of equal length with each corner forming a 90 degree angle. A rectangle is also 4 sided but it's sides don't have to be of equal length

Why a square must be a rectangle, but a rectangle does not have to be a square?
