Linnaeus simplified and unified the previous long descriptive naming systems. He did it by combining Bauhin's system, limiting it to a two word name/organism, with Tournefort’s genus species hierarchical ranking system. This gave him the basic binomial naming system. Further, he extended the ranking system to 5 taxonomic levels. Kingdom [class [order [genus [species]]]] to group defining reproductive floral characters.

Hope this helps. :)

"Two different organisms never end up with the same genus and species name"

Hope this helps!
