3x - 3 = x + 5
subtract x from both sides
3x - 3 = x + 5
-x -x
gives you.... 2x - 3 = 5
add 3 to both sides
2x - 3 = 5
+3 +3
gives you.... 2x = 8
divide both sides by 2
that gives you the final answer, which is....

x = 4!

The answer is: X=4.

You can check this by replacing every X in the question with 4, then solve the problem normally. If the same number is on both sides of the equal sign, then it is correct.
