The total sum of the measures of the angles in a triangle is 180 degrees.
Since it is an isosceles triangle it has two congruent angles (the base angles).
Since the vertex angle is given, subtract the measure of the vertex angle from 180 and divide the remainder by two to get each base angle.
180 - 80 = 100
100/ 2 = 50 degrees each
