Prepare 1500 ml of 5.0 M H2SO4 from a stock H2SO4 which is 80% pure and a s.g of 1.018

To solve this we use the equation,

M1V1 = M2V2

where M1 is the concentration of the stock solution, V1 is the volume of the stock solution, M2 is the concentration of the new solution and V2 is its volume.


M1 = .80 g H2SO4 / g solution (1018 g solution / L solution ) (1 mol / 98.08) = 8.30 M


8.30 (V1) = (5.0 M) (1.5 L)

V1 = 0.9036 L or 903.6 mL of the stock needed
