a fish may have hundreds of offspring at a time, and only a small number will survive. which characteristics of fish might allow them to survive?

Adaptations to the environment could help the fish survive. They could have camouflage and other traits that have went through natural selection to be inherited. They might have also migrated to different waters where they are fewer predators or more food for them to reproduce although most of them will still get eaten.
