What was the problem before in the industrial revolution? (why was change needed? What was life like for the people?)

Before the industrial revolution, many people were poor and 9 out of 10 of them lived on rural land. one problem is that many people knew vary little about the world out side there own town. Change is needed because many people need resources to provide for there family.
