When Gulliver attempts to pat the first horse he encounters in Houyhnhnm Land, the horse reacts with dislike. The horse shook its head and removed his hand. Prior, he horse seemed shocked by his appearance and came up to Gulliver and "looked full in his face with manifest tokens of wonder".

The novel Gulliver´s travels describes the main character Lemuel Gulliver journey to four countries. The four countries are Lilliput, a land of little people, Brobdingnag, a land of big people, Laputa, a land of intelligent but useless people, and Houyhnhnm, a land of horses.
