Senescence is a form of cell-cycle arrest that is first identified in cells at the end of their replicative lifespan and linked to tumor suppression and aging. They are demonstrated by the presence of senescent cells that are non-proliferative and in the forms of fibroblasts or lens fibre cells. In addition, they could be induced prematurely by oncogenes in primary cells, inducing oncogene-induced senescence.
