The Freedom Riders were sentenced to 30 days in jail for breaking segregation laws The goal of this organization was to bring light to the unfair treatment of black citizens throughout the South, especially when it came to segregated facilities.
In Mississippi, several of the black Freedom Riders attempted to use white only facilities. This resulted in their arrest and their eventual jail sentence.
