Copernicus found out that the sun is the center of the universe not the earth so it was strengthen by Kepler. Copernicus said that the shape of it is circular but it is nor supported by any evidence so Kepler was able to determine that it was an ellipse.

While it was Copernicus who founded and developed his theory about the sun being the center of the universe instead of the earth, Kepler followed through and strengthened this theory. Copernicus' issue was that the shapes of the celestial bodies were considered to be circular, but measurements could not support it. Kepler, meanwhile, was able to determine that it was an ellipse.

Kepler advanced Copernicus' work.
