He was the leader of the Fascist party and became the leader of the entire nation when the fascists managed to take over the government. He controlled all aspects of statehood and anyone who opposed them was severely punished or humiliated so as to lose all credibility. He did not allow for any opinion that was not supportive of the Fascist regime to be anywhere in public.
