World War 1 was called the "Great War" for a good reason. There were Great advancements in technology and military tactics. But the most gruesome thing about WW1 was the huge amount of casualties from both civilians and soldiers. It is estimated that the total number of casualties was around 37 million people. 7 million of which were normal citizens that were just caught up in the war.
