When they view themselves as being interdependent. Collectivist culture is one in which the individual is valued according to their value in society and the group is appreciated by the individual. When the individual considers himself interdependent, that is, he has a place of value within the social group, his self-esteem increases because he considers that he is fulfilling his work for the society in which he lives.
