How did Southerners react to the laws passed by Congress? Explain why they responded this way. What were the political and social consequences of Reconstruction in the South?

Southerners were not use to having to treat African Americans with respect, it took them awhile to get use to this. However some never did, one social consequence was the forming of the KKK, and the political consequence was that laws were passed giving African Americans rights, and protecting them.
