first find Y
using the Pythagorean theorem
y = sqrt (3^2 -1^2)
y = sqrt(8)
y = 2sqrt(2)

now you can use Y to find Z

Z= sqrt( y^2 + 8^2)

z = 6sqrt(2)

the answer is D
